It’s a real treat! — Review by The Quilter magazine
Another quilt pattern book? Yes, and it’s a real treat! “Adaptable Quilting Designs” by Sue Patten is designed especially for quilters who want to do more than stitch in the ditch. Not that stitching in the ditch isn’t vital--it secures the top. Still, with sashings, borders, setting triangles, and cornerstones to fill, there’s always room for more stitching--lots more. Sue provides 45 designs that can be adapted to fill those very spaces. Each pattern is shown with several variations that yield more than 100 possibilities for hand or machine quilting--from domestic to longarm. Sue also encourages readers to “mix or match,” that is, to “choose sashing designs from one page and cornerstone designs from another.” She also provides all kinds of tips for adding interest and texture, as well as color photos that show how her line designs look when they’re actually quilted. This is a fabulous book that is inspirational, yet practical. “The Quilter,” September 2010, page 100. (Posted on 9/15/10)
Adaptable Quilting Designs — Review by New Zealand Quilter
Following on from “Quilting Possibilities: Freehand Filler Pattens” Sue Patten’s new book “Adaptable Quilting Designs” provides patterns for borders, sashings, cornerstones and setting triangles. Starting with quite simple designs, the book concludes with ornate feather-based designs. Although these are continuous line and designed for machine quilting, they would adapt well to handwork and all can be enlarged or reduced to fit the space available. Photographs of some designs stitched on fabric give an excellent impression of what the designs will look like on your quilts. -- New Zealand Quilter magazine, Issue 72, page 35. (Posted on 8/17/10)
“A powerful pick for any home quilter.” — Review by James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief
“Adaptable Quilting Designs” provides over forty designs adaptable to tricky spaces on quilts, from setting triangles to sashings, using templates formatted for ease of reducing or enlarging. Each pattern is shown with two or more variations and over 100 ideas for both hand and machine quilting, with dozens of color photos creating a powerful pick for any home quilter. --James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief, Midwest Book Review, “The Bookwatch” newsletter, June 2010. (Posted on 6/16/10)
“A great addition to any quilter’s library.” — Review by Quilter’s Connection Magazine
Sue Patten’s patterns are made specifically to address the need to do more than just “stitch-in-the-ditch,” even on the trickiest of spaces within your quilt. Sue’s designs are easily adapted to hand quilting or any type of machine quilting, and include more than 100 variations––there’s something to suit every quilt and every quilter! --Quilter’s Connection Magazine, Summer 2010, page 56. Adaptable Quilting Designs — Review by Barbara Polston
Sue Patten believes that one of the most challenging parts of quilting is deciding how to handle sashings, cornerstones, and borders. The solution to the challenge is here! No matter how you quilt; by hand, stationary machine, or track-mounted machine; you'll find unique designs that will give your quilts a custom finish. I particularly like the images of the designs stitched out in rainbow thread on dark background - really helps you envision these designs on your quilt. If you're like me and have your tops long-arm quilted by others, take this book along with you to spark your quilters' creativity. (Posted on 3/30/10)
