Message in the Needlework — Review by Marian Kennedy
On 12th June our Patchwork Class ended our year with a Mystery Quilt Day. I made my quilt top up at home to ensure we could do it in a day and gave the ladies lists of fabric quantities and how to cut ready for the day. One member brought in scones for morning coffee and a local restaurant delivered our lunch and two other members supplied dessert. The quilt tops were all finished by 5:00 p.m. and everyone wants me to organise another mystery day. Although they all made the same quilt, they looked so different. This was our second mystery quilt as during the winter we made Treasure Amidst the Bric-a-Brac over the course of a few weeks. Love the book and will of course make more. (Posted on 9/6/10)

Have you ever wanted to host a mystery quilt class? These 15 cut-and-sew mysteries are great for beginners and can be completed in an afternoon or two. Tips from a “super sleuth” will help you plant clues to keep the mystery alive while teaching basic piecing along the way. Also included are true stories from Rita’s mystery classes and recipes for feeding hungry detectives. Quilting alone? Follow along with one of the mysteries–just don’t flip to the final pages where the solutions are revealed. Rita Fishel’s “Mystery Quilts” provides mystery classes, easy clues, and a dozen popular patterns to help quilters create a “mystery quilt” event perfect for group participation. “Suspects” here are cut from fabrics, and quilters are provided all the directions needed to incorporate the mystery qualities into a quilting project. A fun, original concept involves both quilters and audiences in the process. Review source: The Midwest Book Review, California Bookwatch, June 2007 (Posted on 10/30/07)
