DVD of the Stitch Like An Egyptian exhibition at the 2014 QuiltWeek . Interviews with Jenny Bowker, joined by the Tentmakers of Cairo; with demonstrations and explanations of their work. The way the Tentmakers of Cairo appliqué is different from the traditional American method. The men use very large scissors and a much larger needle than we're accustomed to using. Their method of cutting and piecing is also quite different. Instead of cutting the piece with a small seam allowance like we do; the men rough cut the pieces with their large scissors before applying it to the background. Watching these men work is an amazing experience! The techniques and tools are definitely different, yet they produce some astoundingly beautiful pieces of artwork.
