Sewing a red and white quilt is tempting — Review by Linda
Overall Rating
Since the 2011 New York City display of 650 red and white quilts by the American Folk Art Museum, red and white quilts are hot, hot, hot! Patterns for a dozen large quilts in "Red, White & Quilted" will appeal to both traditional and modern quilters because the easy two-color palette sewn with solids or prints, ensures beautiful results. Designs range from nine patch variations to half- and quarter-square triangles, and square-in-a-square. After a quick flip through this book, you’ll want to pick your favorite and get started on your own red and white stunner! (Posted on 12/8/14)
Well-illustrated directions for creating each quilt — Review by Patricia Mesker
Overall Rating
There is something about a two-color quilt that commands your attention and doesn’t let go − especially when those colors are red and white. In this book, Linda Baxter Lasco presents 12 timeless red and white quilt patterns based on a beautiful collection of antique quilts. In addition to general quilt making instructions, she provides well-illustrated directions for creating each quilt with current piecing techniques. Also included are helpful cutting and piecing hints, plus personal quilting notes from the accomplished quilters who finished her quilts and share their design approach and quilting techniques. One of my favorite takeaways from this book is seeing how Linda skillfully combines a variety of reds in several of the quilts for stunning results. (Posted on 10/28/14)
Classic two-color quilts and contemporary quilting designs — Review by Kathie
Overall Rating
Linda took a good idea and made it great. The quilts featured are reproductions of red and white antique quilts owned by Ann M. Hazelwood. This classic color combination is striking in itself, but then Linda asked renowned machine quilters to create and stitch the quilting designs. An outstanding example is the Single Irish Chain quilted by Margaret Solomon Gunn. As an added bonus, the quilters explain what about the quilt inspired the quilting design and often add their thread and batting choices. (Posted on 10/18/14)
