Another perspective on hexagons — Review by Linda
Overall Rating
From the cover’s striking bright green and black quilt to the equally colorful scrappy “Happy Days,” and “County Fair” inside More Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts, Julia will have you thinking about hexagons in a very different way. Like... how to make hexagons without templates, starting with a circle! Anyone who favors handwork will enjoy these ten hexie quilt patterns that are hand-pieced, with visual instructions for machine and hand-sewn appliqué methods. If you’re fortunate enough to own an AccuQuilt®, you’ll appreciate the extra info about which die to use. (Posted on 12/8/14)
Creative ways to use hexies — Review by Kathie
Overall Rating
This follow-up book shows a variety of out-of-the box designs for the hexie, traditionally used in Grandmother's Flower Garden as an all-over design. Author Julia C. Wood has come up with strippy style quilts in This Bud's For You; quilts suitable for males, such as An Engineer's Life; and my favorite, the clever Doughnut Hole. (Posted on 11/11/14)
The technique looks inviting and fun — Review by Patricia Mesker
Overall Rating
More Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts expands on the paperless and template-free technique of making hexies from fabric circles that was first introduced in Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts. The book’s thorough instructions and photographs make the technique look inviting and fun. In addition to hexie construction, author Julia C. Wood describes how to sew hexies together, applique them to background material − both by hand and machine − and quilt them using her favorite big stitch method. Ten original quilt projects provide multiple opportunities to put the quick and easy hexie technique (or any other hexie method) to good use. These patterns showcase the author’s interest in the modern quilt movement and demonstrate her creativity. (Posted on 11/5/14)
