Jane Austen Quilts Inspired by Her Novels

Jane Austen Quilts Inspired by Her Novels

Quilting inspiration flows from the only quilt Jane Austen made and from her six novels. In 1811, the novelist Jane Austen wrote that she had spent entirely too much money on fabric. Every quilter can relate to that! Austen fan and avid quilter Karen Gloeggler went as far as England to see firsthand the only quilt known to have been made by the popular novelist. She recreated Jane's quilt, and then created a quilt design representing each of Jane's six published novels. The resulting 11 pieced quilts appeal to everyone. How-to photos will help non-quilters who love all things Jane to become quilters. This is a book that will end up on Jane Austen fans' shelves simply because it includes fascinating clips from Austen's letters, which are as much a joy to read as her novels.

More than just a Quilting Book! — Review by Patty Martin
Overall Rating
I've read a couple of Jane Austen's books, but never knew she had ever made a quilt. Not only did I learn about the one and only quilt that Jane Austen made in this book, but I also learned about much more of the history of Jane Austen's life! Karen Gloeggler, the author, also provides us with a pattern for her version of Jane Austen's quilt, as well as photos of several variations of this quilt in several different themes. She has also designed quilts for six of Austen's other novels and woven details of the novels and Austen's life around each of these patterns. Gloeggler gives you ideas for variations on every pattern in the book making this book well worth the purchase. (Posted on 1/27/14)
