I just want everyone to know that I have a FREE video on my website with tips for how I quilted the Audubon's Christmas Quilt. There is also a 4 page article about the quilting in American Quilter magazine. Edition November 2013. www.kathymcneilquilts.com BEst wishes (Posted on 12/19/13)
Kudos to Kathy McNeil for this wonderful pattern - a joy to make and a masterpiece to enjoy forever. — Review by Valerie

My husband and I are bird enthusiasts and when I saw Kathy's Audubon Christmas, I had to have it. I started the pattern in January and had it done for our 2013 Material Magic Quilt Show in Nanaimo, B.C. in May. Armed with my favourite bird books for color reference photos, I gleefully brought Kathy's birds to life. Now - this is not a beginner pattern - you have to realize this was a winner at an international show so it takes skill, great fabric choices, and careful shading to make the birds lifelike. I put my own creativity into the pattern, adding a flying cardinal, embroidery etc. but isn't that what a pattern encourages you to do? The pattern is a roadmap -you decide where you will go with it. I loved Kathy's design and her "ghost quilting" - which put the finishing touches on this masterpiece. My quilt won first for applique at the aforementioned show - you can see it on Kathy's website. I couldn't wait to show it to her personally. I have also seen Kathy's actual quilt and can attest that she made it exactly as the pattern is drawn. Once again - skill, fabric choices and realistic shading made her quilt a winner and gave us the opportunity of duplicating a masterpiece for ourselves. (Posted on 12/18/13)

I can't believe anyone would say they were disappointed with these patterns. The simplicity of the pattern will allow me to let my fabric do the work to create the look of each bird. I was actually blown away when I saw that the quilting was included in the patterns. I will most likely do a spring version of some of the blocks. I've told most of my quilting friends about these patterns and how relatively easy the applique is so we can concentrate on the quilting. Looking forward to more of Kathy's patterns. Audubon Christmas — Review by Mary Kinsey
I am very disappointed in this pattern. The birds in the quilt as depicted in the picture on the face of the pattern and in the AQS advertisement is are lovely and incredibly realistic. For that reason I chose to participate in a block of the month. Not one single pattern, as drawn, accurately reproduces the birds as shown in the pictures of the quilt or in the AQS advertisement. The birds in the pattern are cartoonish and the line drawings for the appliqué of the birds dramatically differs from the outlines in the picture. If that isn't important to you, then you may still like this pattern. However, for me, I expect when I purchase a pattern that the appliqué drawing in the pattern will accurately reproduce the line drawing in the picture on the face of the pattern. This pattern emphatically fails to do that. When that failure is a line drawing of a living animal, it is a critical failure and makes or breaks my desire to make the quilt. I won't be making this quilt unless AQS can repair this defect. (Posted on 7/9/13)
